I received an email referring me to this site http://www.spinresearch.com to take a CFI survey on spin training during Private Pilot training. It has some basic questions about spin dynamics. I just thought some CFI's here would find it interesting and a good discussion generator.

My thought: make spins part of private pilot training but not part of the practical. It's easy to verbalize "Power to idle, ailerons neutral, rudder opposite, elevator briskly forward" and whatnot, but I've had too many students freeze when accidentally entering a spin from a practice stall.

I agree with spin training for the PPL, but not required during the practical. My school does spin training in Decathlons as part of the syllabus and it really does help in my opinion. Afterall, I'm sure everyone's had a little wing drop during a power-on stall. It just makes spin recovery more of a reflex rather than 'oooh i think i remember the procedure for this'....(2 turns later) ![]()
