Default Right into the II rating... Need info

I am working on my CFI right now.... wondering if anyone has any insight as to obtaining the CFI-I rating RIGHT after my CFI checkride. I have heard from some friends that this is a bad idea (DPE's want to see dual given to grant a II) while other friends say its a good idea. Any suggestions??

I did mine right away. The DPE seemed to think that as long you're in training mode, stay there until you've got what you need to be the most marketable.

I did my CFII right after initial as well. I couldn't get a job without it...

And from CFII should one jump into MEI or get some time as a CFII first?

Well, that really depends on where you're working. I did my MEI directly after CFII due to the fact that I had to have a CFI/CFII/MEI before I could start working.

Some places will hire you with only a CFI/CFII and then "upgrade" you to MEI once you've got some seniority. Really depends.

There's no reason to wait....really. As far as granting a CFII with no dual given, well, I did my CFII before I did my CFI!!

My own feeling is the cfi is hard enough... why make it harder by taking two checkrides back to back. However the people who have done it were glad to have it done, you might try sending Ophir a PM about it.

Thanks for the insight all. I am looking at it from more of a marketing perspective than how tough another checkride will be. Right now I live in NW Ohio and I have one year of college left. If I can pull a few hours of dual given up here while I am waiting to graduate that'd be awesome... but my family lives in North Carolina so I'd like to move down there. The only way I think I could get a decent job down there is to have a very elaborate list of credentials. ***WOW----hopefully this is the only time I refer to CFI-I as "elaborate***

Like fish in a bucket man, just knock 'em out one right after the other. Mentally you're in checkride mode. You are more marketable with all 3.

[/ QUOTE ]Or you may want to wait and take your CFII training at the place where you want to get a job. That way, you've spent some money with them, been trained in some of their local ways of doing things, and are a more known quantity--all of which will make you more attractive as an employee.

I did mine back to back. Pretty simple I thought. More or less departed the airport for the practice area, taught a few primary manuevers, had the DPE fly under the hood back to the airport and teach some basic attitude instrument and had him shoot an approach.

Very simple.
