Default getting back in the saddle

Folks, I need some advice/experiences...

I got my initial CFI last Christmas, but have only flown 5 hours since then. (I've had one financial crisis after another, and have barely been able to do the rent and utilities.) I've reversed the trend on the rate of withdrawal meter on the the ole bank account, and am now about to get back into the air, (and debt). My question is about one of the memory foes from the FOI test, disuse. I'm rusty. Not only do I feel my knowledge slipping away, but I have recently developed the inability to land the airplane in a crosswind with any style at all.

I'm not IFR current, but want to start to work on the CFII and MEI.

Suggestions? Similar experiences?

Default Re: getting back in the saddle

Been there done that... but I took about 2.5 years off... and had to get a CFI reinstatement done.

It'll just take a few hours (maybe 6-7) to get the rust knocked off. Go up with an instructor for most of it so that you can make sure you are doing everything right. When the rust is there, that's when bad habits can creep in and you not know it.

Get an IPC done and try to do some dual after that to get the instrument rust knocked off too... I was surprised how behind I felt when I got my IPC done. Don't forget your T's ( I forgot to Time after I hit the FAF, had to go missed when my CFII failed my GPS/DME on me )

Just take the time and get comfortable again.. just like riding a bike, you'll be back before you know it to your old skill level, and hopefully a bit better.
