| Has anyone trained at Career Pilot School? What was your experience like? What did you like about it? What did you dislike about it? Did you get a good education? Did you feel like it was just a "pilot mill"? Were your needs and expectations met? Exceeded? I have many specific questions below I would also like to get answers to. Sorry to ask so many questions in a first post, but I've done quite a bit of research into different flight schools both FBO and Academies alike. The offering at "CareerPilotSchool" caught my attention due to the fact it appears to be a straight-forward approach and not a bunch of marketing fluff that I've grown accustomed to hearing and reading in recent months. I’ve been looking for straight answers and it is quite interesting that many so called “experts” seem to disagree on the correct training path to become an airline pilot. Setting that dilemma aside, I thought I would field some very specific questions about CareerPilotSchool. I don’t believe my specific questions here were covered in the website materials to my satisfaction. All forum posters are welcome to chime in on these, but I see that it is a bit of refreshing air that the owner "Mike" has been fielding many of the questions himself. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful answers to my questions! --Slapnut— What's the daily routine like at the school? Is there a ground school, or are you pretty much on your own in that department? What are the school's classrooms like if available? Is there anything that I should be doing to prepare for the Career Pilot Program before arrival to the school? What about the school's credentials? How about the schools financial stability? How many of aircraft are used in the school's flight instruction program? What is the availability of the aircraft? What is your school's reputation on regulations and safety policies? Any accidents or incidents? Are progressive flight-checks given? What's the instructor-to-student ratio? Who schedules lessons, and how is it done? What are the insurance requirements of the school, and how do its liability and collision policies work? Will you be responsible for a deductible, and how much is that deductible in the event of a loss? What is your coverage as a student? What happens when weather or maintenance problems cancel a lesson? Who's responsible for rescheduling lessons and reporting maintenance problems? |

I recommend that you write down these questions, and personally call Michael at CPS. You will get straight, unequivocal answers, delivered thoughtfully, with a good mix of friendliness and professionalism.

Hello there, and thanks for asking the questions. First off I would like to point you to the recent thread "ATP vs Career Pilot School" if you havnt seen it already. I would link it, but im not that cool to figure that out. lol I went all the way through CPS and am now an instructor.. so I will give you my answer, and hope some others also stop by. #1 The daily routine: well its pretty laid back. we encourage learning, and learning to fly can be stressful enough as it is with out a high strung " lets get going, do it do it" classroom and office enviroment. so everyday we talk to the indiviual student, do alittle ground work, and then go fly.. come back and brief and take it from there. very friendly and helpful. #2 Ground School: we do encourage self study, but we also mix ground schooling into the lessons. And we do teach strickly ground school if needed. #3 your prep. well Mike, the owner can answer that the best for you, but thats for each student to decide. its going to be different. But most will end up attending Utah Valley State College as well, so I would say look into that and enroll if needed #4 Again Mike would be the best to answer this one. No problems at all as far as Im concerned, we have good Aircraft, and do not lack in maintenance we get equipment when needed and have a nice enviroment to work and learn in. Also we are accredited with UVSC for degree programs. #5 We limit our students per month so everyone has an aircraft to learn in and gets personal attention. but we have more then enough aircraft from a small 152 for time building, up to a Twin Commanche. #6 We always follow the regs and are making sure our students and ourselves are doing things safely and within FAR's. We have had no complaints and are in good standing with the FAA. #7 instructors are always evaluating students and giving feedback, and we proform mock checkrides to prepare students for the real checkride. # 8 we teach one student at a time, up to two a day. ( split days) the instructor and student make the schedule.. if the student needs to leave, or cant come in.. no problem. And we use an online scheduling program, but with only a max of two students a day for each instructor, its not hard to remember ![]() #9 the owner, Mike will have to answer this one.. never had it happen, so dont know at all. #10 everyone is responsible for reporting things found wrong with an airplane. The instructors will be responsible for getting the aircraft into the shop as soon as possible for repairs if need. if weather or maintenance cancels a lesson. ( it happens somtimes) then the student and instructor either do ground work, or decide together when to pick back up. which will be more then likely the next day. If its a maintenance issue we might be able to jump into another plane anyway. hope this helps Adam Poulter Graduate and CFII CPS.

Thanks to everyone that responded so far to my post!!! The timeliness of your response Mike and your instructors speaks volumes about your organization. I am very impressed and thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions intelligently and not just superficial. My schedule is pretty busy today, but when might be the best time this week to reach you to discuss my options on future training? Slapnut |
