I guess this question would me more suited for Michael, but others can give any expertise if desired. First off, im 33 years old. Am I too old to start an aviation career with a goal of becoming a pilot in either the regionals or majors? Actually, earning a living flying. What program would suit me best at CPS? My goal is starting off at a regional airline as an FO and pehaps in time captain at a regional, then over to a major or cargo carrier. Few threads down you mentioned about classes starting in October? If not October, what is the next scheduled start date? Reason that I ask is I would still have to settle up some personal business before starting any such program. I've been reading a lot since I signed up here on the forums and found there are a lot of other schools out there. I really like the attitude towards teaching, more of a personal approach to teaching than some of the other schools out there. Which is a big factor for me. Thank you for your time. -ChrisL |

I know Mike will answer all your questions, but I seem to have seen your post first, so let me say a few things before he replies. I started working on flying with the intention of going to the Airlines just a few months before I turned 30. Im now 31 ( im doing things at my own pace. ) and Im now a CFII with Mike. I decided to stay here for awhile and work with Mike and build hours and become a real good pilot. You are never too old, let me say that. I will be going to the Airlines in a year or so, and the age thing will only give you seniority in the class ( choise of base, possibly aircraft) so it works to our advantage. First year FO's dont make much... so its a sacrfice at first.. but then it picks up nicely. CPS has a program that is designed to build the most amount of hours and has the airlines in mind. Im sure Mike will be more then happy to talk to you all about. take care, and hope to see you here. Adam

Thank you for the post in our forum! To answer your questions: 1) 33 is definitely not too old to change careers. The airline hiring trends are such that after completing any program out there, you should have a job somewhere. There are a lot of other options besides the airlines, but it seems that is the most popular option as of late due to the hiring trends. Adam's post about first year FO pay is correct, but if an airline is your ultimate goal, it is just another "hoop" to jump threw. 2) The program cost depends on your prior experience, but the two programs that would help you realize your dream of becoming an airline pilot would be the Career Pilot Program http://www.careerpilotschool.com/pro...-pilot-program or the Regional Direct Program http://www.careerpilotschool.com/pro...direct-program. 3) We are booked through September at the moment. It is our goal to keep the enrollment of Career Pilot or Regional Direct Program students to no more than 2 new students per month. October is the first month I have an opening. You may start the first of the month you choose to start your program. Shoot me a PM and we can discuss it further or feel free to call me in the office this week. I don't think you're ever too old to make your passion your profession. I'm actually reading a profoundly moving book co-authored by Stuart Emery. He is a marketing genius, and is the man responsible for the current MasterCard marketing campaign. He is also a pilot (non professional). I met him a few weeks ago at a corporate event and am reading his latest book, titled "Success: Built to Last." I highly recommend anyone read this. I'm 28 myself, and am changing careers from being a business guy to a professional pilot (I also support Michael from a business/marketing side of the company, and moving out there in a few months to also fly with all you guys). To me it comes down to how much is it worth to do what you love and get paid for it. I think there are many of us who are college educated professionals and who choose to pursue our dreams (whatever they may be, I have a friend who has an MBA from Harvard and got sick of the business world and now does custom woodworking for a living) rather than looking for the largest paycheck. It all comes down to how much the trade off is worth to you, and how feasible it is in the first place. I have always believed in this though: Find you passion, make it your profession, once you've mastered your profession the money will come. Go chase your dreams. Patrick

| Thanks for all the replies. I take my 1st class medical tomorrow and from there, I will decide which direction to go. Michael, Look for either a PM from here, or most likely I will contact you through your main web site to gather more information. I don' hold any ratings, so I would basically have to go through the whole process. I've had a lesson or two, but nothing to brag about. (and of course, tons of hours on MS flight sim. ) Aviation has been my passion all my life and im really excited about making this my profession. ![]() You said you have an opening in October. Do you have openings every month or just when someone moves foward? Reason why I ask, I need to sort out some things here, as for selling my place, motorcycle. Basically, sell off my things. And there's no timeline for how long it takes to sell various things. Of course, the faster the better. But I have not yet began selling any of my things. So this would have to be planned probably two, three or four months from right now. First things first...pass the medical. Fingers X. |

We have two Career Pilot/Regional Direct slots each month. They do fill up quickly, so if you have a starting date in mind, let me know. I look forward to speaking with you this week. Michael
