This is an excellent writeup of the "real world" application of the AIM on radio procedures: www.firstshotstudios.com/files/radio.pdf

Lots of great information there. You hear so many examples of poor radio communication out there. It is nice to have everything spelled out clearly.

After reading this in its entirity, I certainly got a good laugh out of various sections, but it really does put into perspective the way things are supposed to be done. Now that I've read this, and pay a bit more attention to others over the air, its amazing how many commercial pilots mess things up, and I'll agree with the author, "with you" is by far the most overused phrase in the skies!
