Moving

Posted July 28th, 2009 at 12:48 by jcpilot

My wife's job ended a few weeks ago, and with our plans to have her live with her parents while I go to OKC for training, we're moving up to her parents house. I currently work for Lowe's Home Improvement here in Logan, and I'm transferring up to a store near where my in-laws live. I'll be working there while I wait for my FOL. Not the most ideal situation, as I'd rather be starting at OKC soon, but it'll help us pay off some bills before I get there.

I was working on a Master's degree...

OKC Day 16: Night shift begins!

Posted July 28th, 2009 at 03:30 by swinte00

I apologize for the lack of updates from the past few days. My girlfriend came to visit over the weekend so we spent most of that time going sightseeing and spending time together, so the computer was left cold and alone with no attention whatsoever.

Friday was spent reviewing material for Block Test #2 which was tonight (Monday night). We played Jeopardy and my team managed to come in 1st place! GO AVERAGE JOES!

Saturday was spent downtown at the OKC Memorial...

OKC Day 12: Intro to Flight, Wake Turbulence, and AIRPLANES!

Posted July 24th, 2009 at 00:24 by swinte00

We finished up on Intro to Flight this morning. I'm really getting tired of our substitute instructor, by the way. He teaches the material alright.. THREE TIMES OVER. I feel like I'm in a Kindergarten class with him. Anyways, we finished the Lesson on Intro To Flight and then moved on to Wake Turbulence! This section was pretty interesting and very important because this hidden phenomenon can mean life or death for the pilots flying in your airspace. Most passengers don't realize what is going on...

Well, since jetcareers has a blog option here, I figured I may as well use it. I'm planning on using this as a day-to-day journal of my journey as an soon-to-be Air Traffic Controller. Hopefully some other people will find my experiences useful, as well as being able to get a general idea of how long this process can be. So here we go......

First off, a little bit about myself. I recently graduated from Utah State University as a professional pilot. With pilot jobs being pretty rare...
