OKC Day 11: Intro to FARs, FAR Part 91, Intro to Flight

Posted July 22nd, 2009 at 22:08 by swinte00

We managed to finish up our lesson on the Introduction to the FARs (Federal Aviation Regulations) and took the EoL test. The introduction to FARs left a lot of questions unanswered and was a pretty vague Lesson. I guess they make the lessons vague for the purpose of not confusing students, but because it leaves so many questions unanswered, it ends up confusing a lot of the people in my class--if that makes much sense?

Both of the people who had Block Test #1 retakes made 100%, so our...

OKC Day 10: Block Test #1, Airspace, and Intro to FARs

Posted July 21st, 2009 at 20:31 by swinte00
Updated July 22nd, 2009 at 16:55 by swinte00

Today we had Block Test #1. I'm going to get the good news out of the way and say that I passed on the first try! We only had 2 re-takes in our class, which is rare (in a good way) for the first BT according to our instructors. I made a 96.6% which means I missed one question about Tower Ops. The FAA examiner said they were going to review the question, so in reality, I made a 100%.

After the block test, we had another guest instructor that taught the lesson over Airspace, and OH...

OKC Day 9: BASIC Radar, FAA Orders, & LOAs and SOPs

Posted July 20th, 2009 at 22:24 by swinte00
Updated July 21st, 2009 at 18:24 by swinte00

Monday again! I took a few days off from posting over the weekend to relax and take some time to catch up on the sleep that I have lost over the past week. Going from not working for a few days to getting up at 0530 is a bit of a change, however, I think I have adapted well.

Today we finished up what we went over on Friday with regards to our basic introduction to radar systems and their operation. The EoL test for Radar was not very complicated, yet somehow our class managed to get...

OKC Day 6: Separation, NOTAMs, and MORE GOLF!

Posted July 17th, 2009 at 23:37 by swinte00

Today is FRIDAY! *Big shout and jump for the weekend*

Got to the Academy this morning and we began our studies on Aircraft Separation. We had a guest instructor today because all of ours are on vacation or tending to personal business. I have to say that even though the guest instructor covered the material well, it was not as "fun" as the other regular instructors we normally have. You learn in your first day of classes that the primary duties of an ATC are to ensure the...

OKC Day 5: ARTCC Positions, Airports, and EoL Tests

Posted July 16th, 2009 at 22:32 by swinte00
Updated July 17th, 2009 at 23:42 by swinte00

Today in class we finished up going over the ARTCC positions and reviewed FSS and Terminal positions. After all of that was said and done, we took our first End of Lesson test over Lesson 1. These tests are not graded by the instructors and they do not find out your individual scores. You run the scantron through the machine yourself, and after everyone has completed the test, the instructor prints a class average from the machine. You then go over the missed questions as a class. I believe our...
