Corporate Reserve

Posted July 2nd, 2008 at 18:52 by CK

I always hear airline types complaining about how being a corporate pilot is not for them because corporate pilots are tied to a pager or cell phone. While that is partly true, it is extremely rare that I get a trip I did not know about for weeks before hand. Once or twice a month I will get a day where there is a chance I may have a trip. I call these days sitting on reserve, because I do have to be prepared to go when the phone rings.

July 1st just happened to be one of those days....

Thunderstorm Fun

Posted May 27th, 2008 at 23:52 by CK

The plan was to pick up my boss and his wife at 3:30 on Friday afternoon and fly down to their house in Myrtle Beach for the weekend. I woke up at about 10am, checked the weather and everything seemed fine except for a chance of thunderstorms and marginal ceilings at EVY (where my boss lives). I layed around by the pool for a while, filed my flight plan on duats, checked the radar one last time and drove to the airport.

I got to the hangar, loaded up a few drinks and snacks then...

Flight Safety C414 Initial

Posted May 27th, 2008 at 23:34 by CK

I stayed at the Hilton right across the street from Flight Safety which was great as they had a van that would drive me around. That was nice since I was seven years too young to rent a car.

My schedule was ground school from 8-12, a three hour...

First Cessna 414 Trip

Updated May 27th, 2008 at 22:43 by CK

I woke up at 7am and rolled out of bed. I got in my car about 7:30am and drove towards the donut shop for some breakfast and coffee. The goal for the day was to finish up my ten hours of solo time the insurance company wanted. The previous day I had done my five hours of required dual with my good friend Bob Pinto and about three hours worth of the solo time. The previous week I had spent out at Flight Safety in Wichita, KS going through the Cessna 300/400 piston series school.

I...

First Entry

Posted May 27th, 2008 at 19:06 by CK

I have always wanted a place to share my flying stories and this blog seems like a good place to start. I figure every so often I will open my logbook to a random page and select a story from one of the entries. I guess with this first entry I will tell a little about myself.

I was born in Lewes, Delaware in September of 1988. At the time my dad was a State Police Helicopter pilot and my mom was on maternity leave from Pan Am Express flying the Dash 7. My maternal grandfather was...
