Hey Doc, This year's allergies are plugging up my nose, can't breath, headache,etc.... Can I take nasonex and be legit on my ATC medical cert? Thank you Sir, UTAMAV |

Probably but you are required to clear all medications with the flight surgeon before you can take any of them and work.

You won't be in duty status until you successfully complete the academy. That being said, you should probably still report it to the FAA while you're on it. They've been kind of weird in the past about people being on medication while at the academy - like the side-effects could somehow hinder your training or PV performance. I take nasonex twice a day and aside from a brief 24-hour restriction, it hasn't been a problem in 3 years. Same thing with Singulair, Allegra (fexofenadine) and other antihistamines. I have seen people taking Allegra-D or anything with psuedoephedrine cause a special issuance situation so be careful with those. Just one word of advice: report EVERYTHING to the feds (except tylenol, vitamins, antacids, etc). A few months ago I saw the Agency try to persue criminal charges on a controller for not reporting a medication he was on. |
