| Junior Member | I don't really have any specific questions about Orlando, I was just wanting to get people opinioins about it. I have been thinking about where I would like to go, if given the opportunity, and Orlando seems like it would be a good place to live. I have been to south Florida, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, more times than I could imagine to count, and I know that is not the type of place that I would want to live. So...if anyone has any comments, thoughts, opinions, ect. they would like to share, please do. I would love to hear them.

| I'm sure it would be a fine place to live. I do know that they have more trainees than they do CPC's at MCO. |

| Senior Member | My mom lives in a smaller town about 40 minutes NW of Orlando, I spent some time there when I was a CFI. Orlando itself has a crime problem, I think it's the 6th deadliest city in terms of crime. The poor urban resident stereotype (I'm not attaching race to this comment because it's not a race issue) that I being from a small town in the midwest would call a complete lack of upbringing and class, is spreading out from Orlando and bringing its crime with it. No one in Orlando can drive, and tourists kill themselves daily on I4. And like other parts of Florida english is a distant second language for many people if that's a problem for you. The housing market is in the crapper like other parts of the country (good time to buy maybe). So like every big city: live as far away as you can, which luckily doesn't seem to be too hard around Orlando. Drive in to work, and drive as quickly as you can to get out afterwards. At least that's my impressions after living there off and on over the previous year.

| Orlando is a great area and with MCO on the south east side of the city its extremely easy to commute from surrounding areas (ie. Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach), just hop on 528 and 30-45 min later your there! However, there are down sides to living in Central Florida like listed above. Lots of tourists, people aren't extremely friendly, compared to some places, but aren't nearly as primitive as other places. Its a good middle ground. You can get far enough from the city that you aren't paying extreme prices for things, your close to the beach. Tons of professional sports, especially during Spring Training. I give it two thumbs up, but then again I live in Merritt Island so I guess I'm showing favoritism. Mike |
