Default Credit Problem

Hey everyone! Great forum with some great information. I have a question.

I recently took the AT-SAT and got a qualified score on it. So I been reading through the forums and have had a question in regards to the security check:

I have really a horrible credit score with a couple of things in collections. I know that this is one thing that could possible disqualify me in the security check. I do not have any thing else on my record, not so much as a speeding ticket.

This was my idea and tell me if you think this would be sufficient. I have been paying as much as I can afford to to getting those items off collections. I plan to be upfront about everything (no surprises) so do you think that if I was to show them proof that I am actually making a serious attempt to get it back under control, that it would be enough?

Second Question:

I can't find this anywhere. lol, just out of curiosity what does PEPC stand for?

Thanks for the responses!

They'll pull your credit at the PEPC, and if there's anything on it they don't like, they'll sit you down and give you an opportunity to explain your situation(s). As long as you tell the truth and give good reasons why, you should be good.

I think you'd get disqualified or rejected if you have tons of Federal debt, evictions, reposessions, bunkruptcies etc. If you ever get a "Declaration of Federal Employment" form to fill out, it only asks about any money you owe the gov't...

BTW, PEPC = Pre Employment Processing Center

in my humble opinion I think they put more weight on credit score than past brush ups with the law.

I had a friend who 8 years ago was cited for possession of marijuana his first year in college, but he never defaulted on any payments and has very very good credit.

He is now at OKC.

So, not paying taxes for the past three years might be a problem?

I had a couple of things that weren't great on my credit but I told the truth and explained the situation. I asked the security lady how much does your credit weigh and she said she can't really say but smiled and said they look at the big picture so take that how you want to.
