| Anyone coming to Tampa? HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- A shortage of experienced air traffic controllers is creating problems for Tampa International Airport.
A heavy workload and the lack of experienced controllers in recent months created a situation where a small number of planes were allowed to land too closely to other planes.
According to Bay News 9's partner newspaper, The St. Petersburg Times, the shortage may get worse as more than half of the veteran air traffic controllers soon will be eligible to retire.
However, airport officials said nearly 30 workers are now in training to help handle some of the workload. http://www.baynews9.com/content/36/2...+Tampa+airport |

| Re: Anyone coming to Tampa? I got the offer for TPA, but I'm in the process of switching to MIA. The other guy got the switch already, but I'm still in the dark. As of now I'm going to TPA, but hoping for MIA. If I make it to my Republic Airways class I will be declining the FAA position though.

| Re: Anyone coming to Tampa? I'm hoping to get Tampa, moving down there this week, but I am a part of the Feb public announcement. Hoping to get that location so if they are short my guess is that would be beneficial to my chances. It is a level 11 facility but I heard they are splitting it up somehow and may drop to a 7! that would drop they pay quite a bit which is unfortunate. Maybe I should look at Orlando lol |

| Re: Anyone coming to Tampa? I'm a Feb applicant too, and I want to wind up either here at Orlando or at Tampa. I live in Polk County almost between Orlando and Tampa, so that way I wouldn't have to move |

| Re: Anyone coming to Tampa? I live an hour South of Tampa, and would've loved to have been slated there. I didn't realize that they were that short on controllers. Instead, the FAA is sending me to Sioux City, IA, which is already 100% staffed??? |
