According to some friends of mine, if you are in the "old" IE good pay band and want to move to a lower (sometimes even higher) facility, you are going under the "new" IE crappy pay band. Also the larger facilities have invested a HUGE amount of cash to train you how to work there. Somewhere in the vicinity of 1 to 1.5 million and they don't want to see that go to waste????????
Is a level 12 the highest??????? Actually ATL TRACON has been working what the FFA categorizes as a level 13 for almost 6+ years, 'course they won't pay us for it . Within the last year or so we have actually been working the equivalent of a level 14 with the staffing of a 10. |

I heard they were going back to the old pay-band. Maybe it is a rumor?

| Re: Why is it harder to move out of a level 12 facility? I would think it's going to be tough to train a new controller at that same facility unless they are of equal or close to the same levels. For example, Tampa Int'l for some unknown reason is hardest to get into in FL. If you want in, you have to find a trade with another controller who works there. It's a level 10 or 11 I think, but Miami is a 12. So if they were to lose a controller in Miami they just lost a very valuable resource, and to train a guy to the same standards would probably be time consuming and expensive, but more time consuming. This is what I would think..

| Re: Why is it harder to move out of a level 12 facility? Oh don't worry. . .I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet. . .but I recall reading the FAA was going to reorganize the level ratings for all facilities. Essentially bring ALL old Level 12(+) facilities down to the Level 9 or 10 level.
Just another "cost saving" measure from the great employer named the FAA.
