| Does a tenative offer lock you into that location? I have been trying to get a answer to this question from the FAA and I still do not know how it works.
I was asked to Interview for Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center. I have another application on file for "throughout the nation." The referral list is going to be created in May. If I go to the PEPC, get a tenative job offer for Cleveland and accept; can I still be placed on the referral list and interview for Detroit (providing I am selected)? I will move if I have to, but would rather not.
Does anyone know the answer ?????

| Re: Does a tenative offer lock you into that location? From how I understand it...once you are offered an interview for a location, you become flagged. You are no longer "available". You can call and request to be taken off the list, but then you are risking a LOT. I think you can do that up to 3 times before your ATSAT score no longer works and you have to retake the ATSAT and reapply for an opening. Others may know more or can correct where I am wrong... |

That is not what I wanted to hear. So, I might not even make the referral list for Michigan, since I have been asked to interview for Ohio.
Can people trade once they are selected for a location?

Before going to OKC, you would need to find another applicant who has not gone to OKC yet and who has been accepted to a facility that you want and they have to want your facility and then you would need to clear it with the FAA.
If you are considering a trade I would suggest calling OKC to get all the fine print info.

I am going to the Chicago PEPC in May for my interview, and applied to the MI specific posting. I know that other candidates who responded via the national call were referred to MI too. |

The Nation Wide application that I replied to does not have a referral list as of yet. I asked and the FAA said it would be created in May.
I do not like the idea of relocating when I could potentially have a job within driving distance from my home. If I relocate and sell my house I will have to take a loss. It is also hard to leave freinds and family. This is great opportunity and I am willing to make the sacrifice.

My plan is to work my ass off and check out quickly and then head to the warmer parts of the country for a while. |

The bright side for me is that it is a 3 hour drive to Cleveland. I can drive home on the weekends if I wanted to.
Who else is making a big move in order to become an ATCS????

| Re: Does a tenative offer lock you into that location? Going from Dallas to Florida (ZJX - currently waiting on final offer). I grew up in FL, and luckily have family that is able to help with the transition, but I would much rather stay in Dallas. But, if that is what it takes, I'm willing to make that sacrifice while I am young (relatively) and without children.

| Re: Does a tenative offer lock you into that location? Yah, I'm 26 married and have 2 kids and am having to relocate. I report to OKC on May 8th and am relocating from SW Florida to Sioux City, IA. We're having to rent out our home, here in Florida, and my husband's having to resign from his current job, which he loves, in the hopes of finding good employment in Iowa. When I'm away at training my husband is doing a job transfer, with his current job to Nebraska (where my parents live) and him and my kids will be living with my parents. It's a huge mess right now, and I really wish that I could've got on in either Sarasota or Fort Meyers, at least until we were able to sell our house. But, I really want to do this job, and have a husband that fully supports me, in this adventure, so off to Iowa we go. In my experience, none of the good things in life come easily! |

Who else is making a big move in order to become an ATCS???? | I'm going from Washington, DC to Cedar Rapids, IA....talk about culture shock! But as others mentioned before here, sometimes you gotta sacrifice to get to where you want to be. I'm in this for the career first, location later. The manager at the ATL PEPC told me it would be easier to check out/better environment at a lvl 6-7 facility anyways.
I'm going to have to find a way to deal with corn and snow........ |

You can go to a PEPC to get your administrative work out of the way and then decline the tenative offer letter and then you will go back into the pool for other states. However, I'm consistently hearing that declining an offer is a very risky move and is not viewed as a positive thing from the FAA. Many people are saying to just get in and wait a year until you get checked out and then transfer. Although, transferring from a lvl 12 like Cleveland would be hard. It is easier to move up in facility lvl than to move down.

| Re: Does a tenative offer lock you into that location? When you first get to the PEPC you interview, and right after that you're presented with your TOL. If you decline the TOL, they will ask you to leave, and you won't be able to go forward with you medical/psych/drug testing/security. So anyone who goes to a PEPC with the intention of denying the job, and just wanting to get move on in the hiring process, it's a waste of your time, because they won't let you move forward. It's best to refuse an interview request ahead of time, or to accept the offer, with the intention of checking out at that facility, and then moving on. |

| Re: Does a tenative offer lock you into that location? I thought I would share this seeing as how several of us appear to be in the same situation. I spoke with Nikki in OKC and was transferred to an actual "Specialist" so I spoke with two persons who both provided the same information that I am relaying to you below:
If you are on a referral list for previous announcements, you will remain eligible for all other announcements so long as you do NOT accept a FOL. As was previously mentioned in this thread, there probably is no benefit to accepting a TOL if you intend to decline. Best bet is to decline TOL and you will remain eligible for all other applications. I asked them to clarify that you could actually be invited to more than one interview and they both said yes. You could be placed on innumerable referral lists and invited to several interviews because your name remains available until you accept a FOL. This was good news for me because I am on four referral lists from 2007 that I am no longer interested in. I was concerned that I would be passed over for the Feb OTS application because I was being considered for these four states, but according to them all one has to do is decline the interview and your name will remain in the pool of candidates. Again, I don't know if turning down offers hurts your future chances or not, but atleast you know your name isn't scratched off the list. |

| Re: Does a tenative offer lock you into that location? Thank you for the info. There is still hope yet. I am going to take the interview for Cleveland and accept the tenative offer (if I get one). With the hopes of MI becoming available later.
Who wants to move to Detroit anyway?
It might be easier than I think!

Incorrect I took a firm offer in Omaha, Nebraska. I was contacted last Thursday and told that I could pick between Seattle and Omaha. Unfortunantly I already moved my family to Omaha now and I can't accept the center in Seattle. So yes you can be referred for both. I was told all my clearances and interview would transfeer the only thing that would change is my school date. |

I went to the PEPC in Miami and recieved a tenative offer letter. I then waited for all the clearances, once I got the all clear I moved my family to Nebraska. After I got here I recieved an offer for Seattle. I called to verify because of what I had heard on here (after you take the job you are not eligible for anywhere else). It turns out that I can chose between the two, also if any more that I applied for want me I can pick form those too. |

You must really like the College World Series...
The FAA must really need some folks in the centers if they're offering you an option after you'd made a firm offer.
