Default Transportation/Logistics Background versus ATC

Hello All,

I've been hearing so much about the applicants trying to become ATC's these days. I'm hearing that less than 40% will actually checkout. Does anyone feel a person with a Transportation/Logistics background have a better chance at checking out than individuals without that type of background or are we all in the same sinking ship?

You would think you'd have a good shot at not washing out, but from what I've read, there's a certain type of person that makes it, not a person with a certain type of degree.

Hell, I have a degree in meteorology with a focus on aviation weather and from what I've been reading I'm worried for myself. I'm know I can do it, but every day I read posts about people flunking out, quitting, hating, etc... it makes you wonder. I've stuck it out in this degrading, lame job for 2 years though. I don't know if FAA management can be much worse than this place's management. You never know, I guess.

Actual ATCs seem to be able to sniff out a wash-out from 100 yards...

I definitely understand. My degree is in Business Management. I work in the Transportation/Logistics field. I feel anyone can do any job as long as they are dedicated and have the ability to adapt to change.

My husband is currently working in Logistics as well. However, some people that have applied to work as an ATC are working as call center people. I personally think that your basic instict, ability and IQ in the field (Which is tested on the AT-SAT) gives an indication of how well you could/would do as an ATC. I do NOT know this for sure, but it is something that I do believe. If I am WAY off base, would someone correct me please!

You either can or you cannot do the job. No specific previous job will prepare you for ATC. At the screen (back in '86 when it was pass/ fail) there were Dr.'s/pilots/lawyers and a few military pilots who came---and went without passing.
