| Questions...Questions...Questions Hello-
My name is Keni and I have applied to a bunch of job locations. I am currently on the referral list for Atlanta and Nevada. I just spoke with OK yesterday and was told I am on the interview list for Atlanta. Now, here are my questions:
1. What happens during the interview? Do I do medical...etc during that time or is it just the interview and they contact you 5 months later for the medical part. Trust me, I am previous military I completely understand the government timeframes.
2. While I'm in OK (hoping), can you get a second job? I know that income is going to drop considering what I am bringing in now and I know my family is going to have a hard time with it. Do you have enough time to work 20 extra hours a week for a little more income?
3. I am confused about the timeframe in OK. Some say 2 months, 3 months, 4 months. What is the deciding factor in how much time you spend there?
4. Does anyone here work for Atlanta? I am reading bad things on here, about qual times and I would like to get a clearer picture. Would it be wise to pass on Atlanta so that I could get quals faster somewhere else? Or is Atlanta the spot to get all the knowledge that I could ever want and it would be stupid to pass up that type of opportunity? I just don't want to sit around for years. I want to learn my job and get to it.
5. Once you get done with OK, do you go directly to your job location or are there more schools after that?
6. If I am reading this correctly, you will not be helped with moving expenses. So if I get NV, I will have to move from FL, with no help from the government?
I think that is all I have right now...thanks |

| Re: Questions...Questions...Questions Hi.
1. My interview consisted of only an interview. About an hour or so. I then got a tentative offer a month and a half later which had instructions on how to do the medical and all the other stuff. Seems now they have these all day events to complete everything. Not sure if those are pre or post interview though.
2. I'm in OKC now. I have yet to meet someone who isn't busy enough with the class work. I would say no to getting a job. You'll be busy studying on your off time. Your schedule may vary as well. Night shifts, weekends, etc.
3. I'm terminal, here for 3 months. If you applied off the street, you'll have to do 5 weeks of basics and for terminal...another 7 weeks. That's 12 weeks. Center people have 4 months with the basics. TRACON only people are 11 weeks or close to it. Just depends on what type facility.
4. Dunno.
5. You get 1 travel day to report to your facility where you train on local facility type stuff.
6. Yep. |

I want to learn my job and get to it. Expect to train for a few years at the least. ATL is THE busiest iarport in the world, and there is a lot to learn and a huge learning curve.
5. Once you get done with OK, do you go directly to your job location or are there more schools after that? Direct after OKC.
6. If I am reading this correctly, you will not be helped with moving expenses. So if I get NV, I will have to move from FL, with no help from the government? You will learn very quickly that you will not be helped with anything from the Govt. count on other controllers for info and YES you will have to move yourself.
I think that is all I have right now...thanks |

When did you apply to Atlanta?
When did you take the ATSAT? |

You and I may have been in the same class. I applied around the same time and I took the test in Atlanta the first week of January. I got put on the referral list about the end of January. I spoke to OKC today and they said ATL met this week but it could take up to 90 days to know if I got placed to interview. |

| Re: Questions...Questions...Questions Did you take the test the same day? I was the only girl in the class. I spoke with OK on the 13th and they told me I was on the interview list. He said I should be getting a call real soon. I guess maybe I just spoke with someone that was willing to go the extra mile, he kept putting me on hold and then asked me if I had been contact yet. I told him no and he said it should be soon. So who knows. What did you get on the test if you don't mind me asking? |

We weren't in the same class. I took my test on that Saturday. I got an 87.2 which is considered "well qualified". How about you? |

It may take one to who-knows how many months until they send you the package. Once they send you the package you begin coordinating for physicals etc...

I want to learn my job and get to it. Advantage: High-level facility, good traffic flow, continuous and consistent training regiment, good pay, good experience. If leads to developmental failure, possibility to transfer to lower facility.
Disadvantage (opinion only): Complex environment to start ATC from an absolute fresh start with no knowledge/experience. Tough(er) level of training in which failure can possibly lead to removal of the developmental at an early stage in the ATC career. Lots of info to learn without prior experience. Expect to train for a little while.

6. If I am reading this correctly, you will not be helped with moving expenses. So if I get NV, I will have to move from FL, with no help from the government? I drove from NY to CA with no moving expenses. In the future, your moves may be reimbursed - depends on what the bid says and how far you live from a certain facility.
I think that is all I have right now...thanks | |

| Re: Questions...Questions...Questions I called 405-954-4657 and whomever I spoke with just did some looking and said I was on the interview list. I think I just got the right person at the right time. But I saw a posting on here and someone else that was on the list for ATL was told that "another candiate was selected" so maybe if you don't have that yet, it means you are on the list. Where do yall live? |

| Re: Questions...Questions...Questions I'm on the Atlanta referral list too. Funny you live in Senoia. I live in Sharpsburg which is also 5 minutes from Peachtree City. My father has been in the FAA for years and use to work in Peachtree City so he called the ATM at the Tracon and he was told they are not brining new people into the Tracon that they actually have 4 over hires now. So we will be looking at the center in Hampton or the tower at the airport. I am ready to hear something already thats for sure. |

| Re: Questions...Questions...Questions I asked that question before when I called out to OKC. The answer is NO. I was on the interview list for MI or IA and for me to even be considered here in ATL I had to turn down the interview. She told me once you are identified for an interview you are flagged as being picked up by that area. Now if the interview does not go well then you are unflagged and put back in the pool of canidates. So she told me if you want a specific area you need to call them ASAP and get your areas changed immediately because they say that it puts the regions at a disadvantage because you are turning down an open slot.
I know you want Utah Beehive, but she did say I gambled on turning down an interview in the hopes that I would be invited to the one in ATL. However, she said that they have a lot of positions to fill and if not ATL you will be put on another list.
I hope this helps. |

CJ @ A80 | I love how the FAA talks about all the new hires....but how many actually make it to become controllers? They never seem to talk about THAT number... |

Really? So how do they figure these things? I would rather be here in Peachtree City. It feels like misdirection in everything that I have seen so far. Don't worry about the man behind the curtain. |

How do they choose applicants to interview? Do they draw numbers out of a hat? Start from the facility closest to applicants home town?
I will call OKC about this, but any info from you people is well appreciated.

Location is one determining factor with how you may be selected for interviews when multiple states are involved.
