To all the Controllers who can help

Alright guys here's my situation, I was a Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force for six years and currently working at a contract tower. I want to get into the FAA and I have been putting in my application on the FAA website for a year and a half. Ill get a couple of emails asking for all my info. and i send it in a fax. Then i dont get any type of response. I've been putting in for the southern states but i really want to go to Texas. So what im asking for is contact info. of people who do the hiring or people i can call and bother until i get a job. I have a total of five CTO's including one to Iraq. Any help would be welcomed

I'm very far out of the loop as far as hiring goes. There is a controller who posts on here who I think was hired recently via the military, he'll probably be along to post soon.

Where are you presently living ? In Texas ? You might try visiting an FAA facility if you are in Texas and talk to some of the folks there, they may be able to put you in contact with someone.

Right now im working at Joplin RGNL, MO. Just trying to network as much as I can, Im 26 now, so i have a few years before the cut off but i dont want to wait that long. ANY help would be great.

Im really surprised that you haven't even been contacted for an interview. The FAA is hiring a boatload of controllers right now! Make sure your application has everything they are asking, if you leave out one thing it goes in the bucket. I would suggest you just take wherever you can to get in, after a year you can transfer.

Hey dobber ... I feared the same when I was putting in my terminal leave papers in june 2006.

What I had to do was go to the ASAP section of the FAA site (https://jobs02.faa.gov/asap/) and make sure I kept my account and profile extremely accurate and updated at all times. Fill out as much as possible up to that day. (you may be doing this already, so great!)

After establishing a solid "resume" (account/profile) online I then checked out the current jobs available tab at the top of the page. (I don't recall exactly as it's been a while since I have logged in)

The ones that I applied for are the top two I believe... something like "air traffic control specialist - Terminal, many vacancies throughout the USA"

You will read in the job requirements something about 52 weeks of atc experience required or something like that.

Then there's one for radar also. There are two separate announcements in which I applied for every time they opened.

Read through the announcement and click the submit function at the bottom of the announcement page. It will take you through some more pages verifying your profile information, atc experience description, what states you want to apply for, if you have a ppl, cfi etc.....

I usually chose 4 to 5 different states, including NY every time; to no avail. Jan 2007 I decided to list California as a state (silly for me living in NY haha!) and received an initial letter a couple months later.

I decided to submit that application packet and do all the med exams, screenings etc... then received the firm letter in early june and was asked to report 3 weeks later.

I will suggest you CALL the contact person listed on your application packets. I found sometimes things can get misplaced easily so it's best to just call and verify the department has actually received your packet.

This is my route, maybe you can elaborate on where/how you applied and what exact type of emails you were getting because most things were sent via a thick fedex envelope.

Sorry, can't help you with any contacts in tx. If you are eager for any atcs position try listing other states you would be willing to work. Your chances of being selected will increase drastically.

i done everything that you have sugested, went and checked the FAA web page and i have around thirty four applications all different states and i just filled out applications for this month. been doing this since i got out of the military in june 2006. hopefully ill hear something soon, but i dont want to rely on hope, its not what you know but who you know. dont get me wrong i have received a couple of emails for AR, FL, IL, and TX. I send the FAA back the info they ask for then i hear nothing, then a few months i check the status online and the job is no longer has any vacancies. so i figure ill try the same technique that got me the job at a contract tower...keep calling until they get tired of hearing from you and give you a job.

Try doing a follow-up call to whomever you send the requested info to. I had many-an-announcement where it stated "you were not in the referral list..." there were only a couple announcements that said "you may or may not be selected..."

So I hated it, never gave up hope, but remained persistent nonetheless.
