Default ATC Age Requirements

Is there any type a waiver for the age limit for new controllers?

I turned 31 three months ago. I have an Aviation degree, Instrument rating, Flight coordination experience, all that good stuff, but I missed the age limit by 3 months.

I would like to apply for an ATC career.... Is there anything I can do?

Thanks.

The only program I know of is for military controllers as far as the FAA is concerned. As far as I know they haven't started issuing waivers. You could always go the contract tower route since I don't think they have such strict age requirements.

I believe the cut off age is 30. My dad was looking to be one but he's too old!

X-ray will be here to answer it for sure though!

Bigey is on the money...

Though the posted age limit is 31 you really need to have the ball rolling by the time you are 30 because by your 31st birthday you need to be in process (meaning ATSAT test taken, medical, etc.) or your DQ'd.

The age 31 rule is unfortunately not going anywhere and the FAA does not issue waivers. Mandatory retirement (from working traffic) for an ATCS is 56, age 31 plus 25 years = 56. (25 years for retirement).

Lockheed Martin now runs the flight service stations... as far as I know they have no age requirement and they pay pretty good, they actually pay more at some locations then the FAA's new pay scale.

If you have any further questions post away.

Sorry about the bad news.

Yea... it is. Many of the rules in my opinion are archaic and need to be looked at in modern times but there are so many other fires burning in the FAA it just does not happen.

If your dead set on some sort of ATC thing look into Lockheed Martin and FSS.
