I've been selected to take the AT-SAT and all they gave me was a time window that I would be taking the test in. Does anyone know if there are multiple test in that window or if it's just one? Thaaaanks.

I just looked at my email today and "figured out " that this email was 'important'. I was so close to deleteing it, it was sent from what looked to be a spammers email account, and letters AT-SAT didn't really STAND out or anything. Fortunate for me I decided to take a second look. I'm interested as is the post, in what exactly the AT-SAT entails, I only have a Student rating and approx. 83 hours, but I'm finishing up my PPL here pretty soon. Well at least I know someone else is taking it, good to the above post writer.

Just a suggestion for those wanting to know what the AT SAT entails or are looking for advice on the test...purchase the book Air Traffic Control Career Prep. Its published by ASA and written by Patrick Mattson. It comes with an explaination of all the parts of the AT SAT as well as the AT SAT test on a CD ROM that you can practice with. Probably runs 40 bucks or so and while you likely won't find it at your local Borders, its easily found online at places like amazon.

I talked to the company giving the test and I guess there are multiple days the test is given..I have the book mentioned in the reply before this and it's not bad. The CD in it is pretty cool..buuut I have no idea how helpful it is because I've never taken the test before.

I took the test twice - once after CTI school and the 2nd time when I went to enroute training in OKC. Yeah, you get there and they make you take it again for 'research' purposes. Here's a hint, on the test they say the 'survey' doesn't count and is not graded...IT IS. When in Ok. City we were talking to the test administrator and she said it was one of - if not the - most heavily weighed sections. The tests really not bad. Everyone walks out of there thinking they did horrible only to find out they scored really well. Good luck.

How was the scenarios section of the at-sat? It looks like that is gonna be the hardest part for me.

"scenarios" -- if you're in reference to the 'sim' portion, it's not too bad. Kinda fun actually (funner than being in OKC with an instructor yelling in your ear ). The key to that test is to get everyone at full speed asap. High and fast leaving, low and slow coming in -- but keep em' fast right up till their at the 'gate' for the airport. You end up getting ALOT of planes on your scope. But nothing compared to problems 30-36 at OKC. There you'll have 8 guys converging over a vortac at FL230 (you don't own above that so you can't climb em') with guys at 220, 210 and 200. MMMM, good times it was. I thought the worst section was the conveyer belt. You get asked some crazy questions at the end and, while you may know a couple, the vast majority you havn't a friggen clue. Don't sweat it, if you score above an 75 they'll take ya. Developmenals are resigning and veterans are anxious to get out. The FAA is in a world of hurt right now. I have 10 friends at various facilities, 4 have resigned, 2 more are on the bubble. 6 out of 10??? That's some baaaaaad numbers. Good job Blakey.

| Yeah i was talking about the "sim" portion. I bought that ATC career prep that comes with a cd-rom and have been going over the scenarios portion and haven't really scored to well on it. I hear the programs on this cd are kinda screwy though. Thanks for your help. I'm taking the test on saturday. Any other pointers would be much appreciated. | AT-SAT was pretty easy considering I didn't go to college for CTI. It seems like you can get quite a bit wrong and still do well. I crashed two or three planes in scenarios, and letter factory questions were kinda stupid...almost impossible to remember most of them. Everything else I felt I did well on and I got a 92.3... probably could have got higher except I wasn't paying attention to time on the math and missed the last one by 2 seconds (literally had my cursor on the answer) stay focused even if you start screwing up don't worry just try to redeem yourself and you will prolly do well. I heard some people even crashed 9 or 10 planes and still qualified. |

I found letter factory to be fun, but I am weird I guess. When the test portion came after practicing, I was still able to answer at least 75% of the questions with some level of confidence. It is all about situational awareness. Memorize the rules and exactly what yur looking for and it is a piece of cake.

Took the at-sat last saturday. I think buying the book with the cd is well worth it. The scenarios on the at-sat are not nearly as hard as the test prep ones on the cd. The math, scan and dials are all great practice for the actual test. The letter factory was decent practice too.

| Newbie | I didnt think the AT-SAT was that bad. I scored an 88.5 out of a CTI School, have been in the agency for almost a year, soon to be a level 12 FPL. (probably in the next 1-2 months). Its been a fun ride. All I can say is take the test, put your self down to the grindstone for a year or two, and you'll have a great career. ATCT

You need a 70 on the at-sat to pass, but a low passing score doesn't automatically put you into the next round.
