|  AT-SAT question Hello all, This is my first post, although I have browsed this forum frequently over the last couple of months. I have a question. I have been selected from the general public to take the AT-SAT for a position in NY. My question is this: Once selected to take the test for one position, can you be selected to take the test for any other openings? Other positions that I am waiting to hear from have not responded whether or not I can take the AT-SAT and they would be closer to where I live. Thanks for all the help! |

 | Re: AT-SAT question I've got the exact same question. I took the test for BOS, although I want to work in NY, It tells you that you are not eligble to take the test for that location. Not sure if the test is transferrable. Good Luck

| Re: AT-SAT question not to hijack, but when you pass the test and get hired, are you told right away what your location and position will be, ie tower, center, ect.. also when you go to OK for academy, do they train you for one job or all? |

| Re: AT-SAT question Also, I would not mind moving to NY for 3 years or so but I was reading in your other post "What to expect next" that it is difficult to relocate. That worries me just a little bit. |

| Re: AT-SAT question It is my understanding that if you take the test for a specific area, say NY, then you will only be offered a job at a NY facility and you cannot take the ATSAT in another area. Keep in mind ... the big NY facilites, N90, ZNY, are known as sign on die on. There is a long list of people trying to get out and many can take upwards of 10 years and many hardship requests. The reason they are giving the ATSAT in specific areas for hiring in those areas is to try and staff the hard to staff facilities without having everyone try to get out. Back in the day if you and me were in OKC and I was going to BOS and you to NY we could swap at OKC, they would do the paperwork and work out the details (assuming we passed) because in reality both places still got the warm body. I have no idea if that can happen anymore... under the new regime I would guess that is a no. |

I should say also that I have not yet officially been contacted to take the ATSAT but received a message that I would be contacted soon to schedule a time to take it(one month ago). I don't know if they are just moving extremely slow or what. I am holding out hope that the positions that just closed for Fort Worth Center and Houston Center somehow let me take the ATSAT also. If I had known that once you had been selected to take the ATSAT for one position you became ineligible for all other openings I would have been much more picky about where I chose to apply. The difficulty to transfer to another center after you complete all your training and become fully certified concerns me the most though. Like I said earlier...3 years in New York is no problem. 10 years though is an entirely different story. | |
