Default Hard or Temp altitude?

This question has come up amongst the controllers on VATSIM, so I'm asking a professional. In the enroute environment, when clearing an aircraft for a descent into its destination, would you change the altitude to a hard or temp altitude on the datablock?

interim alt , entering a hard alt makes a change in the nas that is not needed

interesting, i didn't think about what effects it would have on the central computer. can you elaborate more?
