[ QUOTE ] can you bend over and cough and take it like a man? [/ QUOTE ] You know...I've always heard these things before... With all honesty though, has any AME ever done that to you though? I've only gotten a medical once, first class, and I was pretty surprised that the guy didn't do much.... He just tested my reflexes (knee) and examined my back or something.... I don't remember too much.... However, I've seen it somewhere, the FAA site or (or some other website)....where there is a section on the examination form that says "anus"?... Hmm......I don't know....? Perhaps my AME didn't do a good job? Oh well, I hope he did the proper checkup. Wouldn't want to find out later on that I have a condition which could prevent me from having a first class medical. (Not that I need a first class medical at this point, but it's always good to know if you're in good shape) |

[ QUOTE ] With all honesty though, has any AME ever done that to you though? [/ QUOTE ] YES!!!!!!! ![]() Third Class medical. I was quite violated. ![]() Here's what mine consisted of: hearing sight color/depth perception Range of Motion pee test anal probe turn your head and cough joint palpatations And this was for a Third Class. Thing lasted over an hour. NOW - if I'd gone ahead with the FIRST class as I had intended, God knows HOW long I would have been there. That would have included an EKG (I was 36 at the time). I THINK I'll be choosing another AME for my next medical. |

| ![]() Yikes Guess I was lucky then! A nurse did the urine, hearing, sight, peripheral vision, color, weight, and height tests. The AME only checked me like for 5 short minutes as described above. Yep, "violated" is the word, heh heh... Thank god I didn't undergo that! Egh... Do you think it was perhaps because of my age (17)? I know he's NOT SUPPOSED to use that when carrying out the examination (well except the EKG) but I'm thinking he found it a bit unnecessary...? What are your thoughts? |

[ QUOTE ] joint palpatations [/ QUOTE ] Hmmm....that makey no sense. Perhaps you mean palpation (touching/feeling). i.e. Palpate your carotid pulse. Two medical terms which are close in spelling, but not in definition. |

Do they test for DRUGS in your pee? I don't see it in the FARs |

I'm sure they do. It's in the FARs that you can't be under the influence of illegal substances. I think if you show up stoned for your medical, they'll go ahead and assume you would show up stoned for a flight. I think they MAY screen for prescription meds that are prohibited, just in case you don't declare them on the form.

The flight physicians don't, but your employer absolutely without a doubt WILL -- and repeatedly! ![]() Don't do drugs and expect to fly airplanes for a living because when you're eventually caught, they'll have no mercy on you. I know a person that went to a regional, decided to 'toke up' one weekend and take part in a procedure that urban legend says will mask the traces of drug use and got a test a few weeks later when he was in new hire ground school. Needless to say, he's out of a job and may have had his licenses revoked as well. And with the drug-oriented revocation on his airman record, he probably can't even get a job driving a truck. The FAA doesn't 'play', nor do any employers when it comes to drug use. |

Dude, you can afford flight training AND cocaine? You must sell the good stuff on the side. |
