My Dr put me Tenormin 2 months ago for borderline BP and although I have not flown since (medical expired as did funds). I am about to schedule for a 2nd class and am wondering if the AME is going to refer it to the FAA or does he have the authority to give me my medical (paper form).. Thanks Hawk |

Gather up all of your records about your condition from the doctor treating you for hypertension. Might want to search the aeromed site at the FAA to see if your prescribed medication is on the approved list. Take that stack of data with you to your flight physical and even if he's got to send your data to the FAA, they may issue you a provisional medical until the feds give the final nod. |

AOPA has an approved-medicines index on their website. It will tell you whether or not your drug is on the approved list. If it isn't look and see if there are other anti-hypertensives on the list that are approved. Then go to your PCP and get him to switch you. And Doug is right, be prepared to take all your records to your AME in case they need to send them on to Oke City for approval. Good luck! |

What did the doctor consider borderline, if I may ask?

Here are some readings from my records. I went for 7 for trends.
