Post AT BP question

Hi Dr.

Quick question...I'm 22 and am about to start taking high blood pressure medicine for my slightly high blood pressure that started on the rise back in Jan 08....I've had electrocardiograms, ekg, blood test, urine test (all normal)...etc, i dont smoke...and work out daily, eat pretty healthy....anyways...I'm in the process of being hired by the FAA for ATC....my doctor thinks my high blood pressure is due to some stress that im under now that I have graduated college and all the anxiety that comes with applying, not knowing what comes next...and the conscious thought that my blood pressure is going to ruin my chances...anyways...i know the FAA website says high blood pressure requiring medication will require a special review...and without you knowing all the details I'm sure they will look at....could you give me any answer on what you think?...assuming the medicine I'm about to start controls my blood pressure....will I have a good chance of getting my medical? Thanks in advance!

Default Re: AT BP question

They will want the following: a current (within preceding 6 months) cardiovascular evaluation by the applicant's attending physician. This evaluation must include pertinent personal and family medical history, including an assessment of the risk factors for coronary heart disease, a clinical examination including at least three blood pressure readings separated by at least 24-hours each, a resting ECG, and a report of fasting plasma glucose, cholesterol (LDL/HDL), triglycerides, potassium, and creatinine levels. A maximal electrocardiographic exercise stress test will be accomplished if it is indicated by history or clinical findings. Specific mention must be made of the medications used, their dosage, and the presence, absence, or history of adverse effects.

Pretty simple, most of it is already done.
