| My aunt (father's side) was diagnosed with long QT syndrome. I've been advised to get an EKG to see if I have it. I'm male, 34 years old. My questions are: If I have LQTS, how would it affect my ability to obtain a first-class medical? If it's disqualifying for the first class, would I still be able to obtain a second class, since the EKG isn't required? Should I go to a private physician to get my EKG first, or my normal aviation medical examiner? My father and three siblings have already been tested and do not have it.

| Long QT syndrome may be disqualifying, depending on the treatment. Implantable defibrillators are not currently approved. Pacemakers are approved for Special Issuance. Beta blockers are approved also. If it were me, I would see a cardiologist to see if I have the syndrome. If you have it, treat it!! To avoid treatment to fly could be a fatal mistake. |

| Thanks, I'll go see a cardiologist and go from there.
