Default ATC medical question

I'm thinking of going for ATC as a career and had the following question in regards to the pyschological standards. The detailed standards say that any history of a "neurosis" is disqualifying. What kind of "neurosis" are they referring to?

During the ages of 19-21, I went in for counseling and was told that I had generalized anxiety disorder (which I think is bogus) and major depression.
However, it is my belief that this was all situational, and even though I
had suicidal ideation at the time, I never actually attempted it. I was
prescriped meds, but didn't take them for a long length of time (not even
a few weeks) because I didn't want to take them.

It's been several years since I've been through this, things have improved greatly, and since then I have had no symptoms at all. No baseless anxiety, no recurring depression, no suicidal thoughts or intentions, nothing... With that, I also have not gone to any further mental health counseling because there simply hasn't been a need for it.

Could I still meet the requirements for an ATC medical given this history of
mine or should I give up the dream? If I should give it up, well, that's
disappointing, but I'd rather find out now than later.

Thanks for your assistance.

They will probably want copies of the medical records and may require a current psychological evaluation.

My AME during a recent medical exam for a pilot certificate didn't ask for any medical records when I mentioned this to him. Granted, I simply told him that I had depression and anxiety, took medications briefly, checked the appropriate medical history box on the form, (the one for mental disorders, depression, anxiety etc...) and he issued me the certificate knowing I haven't had any problems recently.

Will the FAA still want copies of the records for the ATC medical even though I already have a pilot medical certificate? Are the medical standards different? My AME said that I should be able to write "previously reported, no change" on the 8500 for my ATC medical. Is that true? I guess it's no big deal if they still want copies of the records, but that would seem a little unneccessary if I already have a medical certificate, right?

Thanks for your help.

Do as he said but also get copies of the records. You are going in as a New Hire and they may be more stringent about reviewing the records. Be prepared.
