My wife looks to be starting flight school soon, so I wanted to ask initially if her medical conditions might make it more difficult. My wife takes Prozac antidepressant (which she can cease if need be), Levothyroxin for her thyroid, and glucophage for polycystic ovarian disease. Are these disqualifying? She also has mild asthma which in extreme situations she uses an albuterol inhaler, but she hates to use it and rarely does. And currently is overweight related to the thyroid issues, which may be corrected through use of current medication. What do you think her chances are, Doc? She's a very talented pilot right out of the box, I hope she'll get to use that talent! |

Prozac is disqualifying. She will need to be off the medication for at leat 90 days and have a letter from her physician explaining why she was on it, that she no longer takes it, and that she is doing well without it. The glucophage will cause a problem. They will want her to follow the diabetes protocol for type 2 diabetes since she is on glucophage. The thyroid is not a major problem but they will want to see a TSH and a letter from the doctor stating that she is controlled and has no adverse effects from the thyroid medication. For the asthma, they will want a letter from the doctor stating the asthma is controlled, what medication she uses and a pulmonary function test. |
