| Hello all, I have been working on sifting through the FAA's website looking for some answers to questions, and I've given up and just decided to post on here for some advice. I just got a first class medical/student pilot cert. today. When I get my private, comm. etc, does that medical stay the same, or do I end up having to reapply for different forms, etc? I was wondering because of the student pilot thing on there if there is a different medical once you aren't a student pilot anymore. I realize the actual medical remains active, but is there any additional paperwork needing filed etc. Anyone with a quick answer is appreciated. Thanks again! Mark |

Even if you get a new certificate, your medical is still good. That is unless you want to engage in commercial operations. You can get a Commercial certificate with only a Third Class Medical, but to actually fly commercially, you would need the Second Class. ![]()

| Since you were issued First Class, you'll have a First Class Medical if you solo within 6 calendar months of the examination, Second Class if you solo 6-12 calendar months after the date of examination and Third Class afterwards. But don't worry since for getting a certificate all you need is Third Class so it really won't matter for your case.

| You apply for the Medical you want. If you are going to be a private pilot you can apply for a 3rd class. But if you want to be a commercial pilot eventually it wouldn't be a bad idea to apply for a 1st class just to be sure you can earn one.

| Could you post a link to the basic criteria for my 1st class? As mentioned about 2 topics below, i've always been in good health just a bit on the "large" size with my weight. Also is there a price difference in trying to get a 1st compared to just a 3rd for my privet pilot?
