3rd class/student cert. before 16.

I was recently informed by my AME that I could not take my medical before I was 16? I thought that you could write :Not Valid until 5/18/2008(my birthday) on the limitations sections:? I am going to give him a call today and ask him. What do you do to the students who want to solo on their 16th birthday.
