Default Hearing Impairment

I am curious to know the specific limitations on a medical certificate and, ultimately, the employability of a pilot who is deaf in one ear. I know that completely deaf individuals may become certificated pilots with a limitation on radio use.

I have a young friend of the family who is very interested in pursuing aviation as a career pilot. He is deaf in one ear. I'd like to help him in any way that I can.

Thanks in advance.

Default Re: Hearing Impairment

The basic test given by the AME is spoken voice at 6 feet with the back turned to the applicant. Pretty simple.
