Dr. Should I or (put a better way) do I have to report having a basal cell mole removed on my next medical. As you know they are very common and have little or no chance of spreading. Thanks |

Yes, you should report it. Take copies of the pathology report, the operative report and a letter from you Dr stating there is no sign of basal cell at this time.

Thank you for the quick reply. Quick question though, do I have to report it legally? I rather not get into I had skin cancer thing and just move on. If I do report which I probably will, could that delay getting the first class medical if I currently don't have the paperwork you mentioned? Thanks |

Yes you have to report it. Falsification of these forms is a felony. I don't know about you, but I have no desire to live behind granite walls in Leavenworth, Kansas. Just get the records and take them. The AME will have to either hold the application (which he can do for up to 2 weeks if he is a good guy) or defer it to Oklahoma City which will cause a delay of 6-10 weeks. Unfortunately, you had the skin cancer and cannot ignore it. |

AME's can hold the application for 2 weeks (FAA policy) if they need more information from the airman. For example, I currently am holding one for a guy with high blood pressure who needs to get a note from his doctor. If he brings the note in, we will review it and issue his medical. If he does not bring the note in within 2 weeks, we will defer the application and when he does bring the note we will send it to OKC where it can take 8-10 weeks to be reviewed and the certificate issued. This equals 8-10 weeks of no flying since the current medical is invalid when a new one is transmitted to the FAA.

can the AME issue the medical to a pilot who has had the cancer removed? Or does it have to be deffered no matter what since it is cancer? Thanks |

Basal cells but the FAA needs to approve the others.
