I was just wondering to what extent does any irregularities in heart beat effect getting a 1st class med. My father had heart surgery on a valve but it was mostly attributed to bacteria from a dental visit. However my sister has also had some moderate irregularities in her heart beat, nothing serious or that is even followed up, but it is still present (I know more detail on what would be helpful here but without calling her right now thats all I know) I myself have no such irregularities but I am young and am afraid as I age perhaps something could develop. I know it is probably very subjective, but what kinds of irregularities can prevent you from getting a 1st class medical?

If you have no irregularities, don't worry. Irregular heart beat can be normal or abnormal. The only way to tell the cause is an ECG. Depending on the cause of the irregular rhythm, one may or may not need a cardiac evaluation for a medical certificate. This is true for all classes of certificates.

What about a heart murmur? I have played sports of my life and this year before I was clear to play I had to get a murmur checked. I was clear to play because the doctor said it was fine. What should I do about that? What does that mean in terms of getting a first class medical? Thanks for your time.
