Default Optical Neuritis

Dr. Forred -

Thanks once again for being available on the forum.

I had an optical Neuritis which has resolved and my vision has returned to 20/20. Are there any issues that I will have with getting a first class medical certificate with an optical neuritis in my past?

Thank you in advance Doctor!

You will have to submit your medical records, a Form 8500-7 from the ophthalmologist and formal visual field testing to the FAA for a decision. The AME will not be able to issue you a medical certificate.

How big a deal is the optical neuritis? Am I better off saying screw it and just flying sport pilot? Would really love to fly commercially, but don't want to take a chance of never flying at all.

See your ophthalmologist. If he says the visual fields are normal and you have no other disease in the eye, you should have little to no problem getting FAA approval.
