Hi, I am 39 years old and considering jumping into aviation as a possible second career. (I hope to retire at 48). I plan to start taking lessons for a PPL, and I was wondering if I can get a first class exam even though I only need a third class right now? Given my age and a few health concerns, I want to know if I can even "pass" the first class requirements at this point, and this way I will know if a flying career is even a possibility! Does this idea make sense? Am I even allowed to take a first class exam?? thanks |

Why not? You might as well know now if anything disqualifies you for 1st class over 3rd class. Even if you'd easily pass both, I'd get 1st class just for piece of mind. Some docs charge more for first class, but mine was flat across the board. |
