I am just about to take my first medical. I only need a 3rd class medical but I think I am going to get a 2nd class medical just to make sure that their will be not flaws if I try to do aviation professionally. I was thinking of doing it after my flight lesson for scheduling purposes but If that would negatively affect my medical in any way then I dont think I should do that. What are some ways you prepare for a medical? I just want to be in tip top shape for it.

Don't worry about it, just go and get the medical. At your age, there should be no problems unless you have a history of an illness. Go to http://medxpress.faa.gov and complete the 8500-8 there. If you have questions while completing the form. right click the question and it will give you the answer. |

Just a side note- Why not go with a 1st Class Medical if you are looking to fly professionally in the future. After that of course you can let it defer into a 2nd/3rd class down the road. Pretty much before my meeting I just made sure I ate healthy and didn't run all the way to the docs office .
