hello sir, i had gone for my class 1 medical , they declared me temporary unfit because my haemoglobin was low ,they asked me to carry out a few tests. i got the tests done and it said i had beta thalassemia minor. will this declare me permanently unfit for flying. and also my hearing is average of 40db, will this hamper my dream career. i'll be glad if you could clear my query. |

RE; Thalassemia: There must have been a reason they did blood tests to find anemia. Blood tests are not required on a Class 1 Medical in the US. That being said, you need to gather a full report of your tests and a clinical evaluation by a hematologist and submit them to the FAA for consideration of a Special Issuance. If the anemia with thalessemia is significant, you can go into heart failure at altitude and that is the concern. You can use hearing amplification and fly. Can you pass the conversational test at the AME's. If so, that is adequate. |
