Default Colorblindness question

Hey,

I have a friend who is red-green colorblind. It is extremely subtle and he can see reds and greens without issues in normal everyday life. He can tell the difference between shades of red and green but on some of the Ishihara Plates he needs to look at it for a while before he can see the numbers. Will he be able to obtain a third-class medical? Thanks.

Default Re: Colorblindness question

He can obtain a third calss medical even if he fails the color vision test, it will just have a no night flying restriction on it.

If he fails, he can take a Farnsworth lantern test ( http://www.myflightsurgeon.com/Farnsworth.html ) or request a signal light gun test from the FAA.
