Back when I was in high school I ran on both track and x-country. Sometimes after having ran really fast, like at a meet, I would have coughing fits that would last for a few hours. It happened during both track seasons of 2003-2004, and possibly 2005, I can't remember. I went to see my doctor and from what I remember he said it was something like exercise-induced coughing (or something similar to Bronchiospasms) and that it was more of an annoyance since it never caused wheezing or affected my breathing... additionally, that it was NOT asthma. It also never affected my running, or breathing, it always came up after running and never during. Now, several years later; I'm applying as a Marine Officer Candidate (with the hopes of getting a flight slot), and I had to bring it up during MEPS on a medical form (since I used an inhaler); so it'll be up for review and such. My question is if that could be a permanent disqualifier?... Even though it's not asthma and it doesn't have any affect on my breathing or such... additionally, I have not had it since 2005 at the latest. |

As far as the marine corps, I don't know if it is DQ or not. Second, it is exercise induced asthma, no matter what the doc told you. Third, it will not be a major issue with ab FAA medical. |
