I just had an EKG done for my annual physical at work (not my flight physical) and the nurse said that the EKG flagged something that looked irregular and therefore needs to be reviewed by the company doc. She said not to worry as this was fairly common but that as a nurse she isn't really qualified to understand the details. What does the doc look for in a good EKG or more specifically what does the flight surgeon look for on the first class flight physical in the EKG?

ECG's show electrical rhythm and changes that can occur with disturbances in electrical conduction. The things the FAA looks at are abnormal rhythms and electrical changes that occur with coronary artery disease. These are all screened by a computer and if there is an abnormality, it is over-read by a physician.

I had my 1st class medical last Friday, and all went well! No "abnormality" detected on the EKG at all, whew! Thanks again for easing my nerves Doc.
