| In preperation for deployment to the gulf, I had to get my first shot series of the anthrax shot. The area where the shot was given is hard and it feels like a knot, is this a normal reaction? |

| You can get an inflammatory reaction with some scarring to any shot. |

| The GG shot was the worst for leaving a knot--it was injected after pulling it from a fridge (kept cold) and it felt like you were sitting on a golfball for a while after you left the Doc's office. The Anthrax shot reacts differently to folks--in the early days of issuing the shot, I think most folks' reaction were mental from all the rumors going around the military and media, of course. Your symptoms should go away soon....not an expert, just have received more than my fair share of Anthrax shots in my time. |

| Junior Member | anavalairman2, Wait until you get the yellow fever and typhoid shots. Word of advice, don't get them in the same arm. I couldn't move my arm for a few days. Then of course there is the feeling that you really did catch yellow fever and typhoid. |

| I just got the 2nd shot of the series the other day and it felt like I got hit in the arm with a hammer the next day, the shot was given in the opposite arm this time. At boot camp, I had to get the infamous "peanut butter" shot and my rear was sore for the next week. Pretty bad but I made it through. |

| The "peanut butter" shot is the grand finally of all shots administered at boot camp. It leaves you with feeling like you got pegged with a 90 mph fast ball right on the rear. It was a long needle! and it burned! |

| After having 7 of the damn things I learned to rub the hell out of it for a good two hours after getting it...seems to reduce the pain after the fact. Now what happens in 10 years...well, wait and see.

| OH yeah, In 3 months I won't be a guinea pig any longer. I'm counting down. I will be in the persian gulf when I cod off the ship into Bahrian or Dubai to start my transition back to the wonderful civialian life. Still waiting for OKC to give me the OK as far as my medical goes but everything has been good so far and as far as the speediness goes in regards to review and paperwork, I'm surprised. I hear alot of people having to wait a long time before a response is given but in my case, It's been pretty fast. My persistance is working and so are my prayers! May god bless you all. |
