Dr. Forred, I was recently prescribed Atarax (says Hydroxyzine on bottle-guessing it's generic name) for the skin condition Uticaria, as I have really bad skin reactions to water. The doctor told me it was a pretty powerful antihistamine, and after doing my own research online I see it also has been prescribed to treat anxiety. This was kind of red flag for me, as I know the FAA frowns on anti-depressants. Was wondering if you knew if there are any restrictions or bans on Atarax for a 3rd class holder (I have yet to find anywhere listing it yet)? Thanks |

Probably the same with any antihistamine. Don't use it and fly, don't fly with-in like 8 hours of last dose.

Atarax is disallowed because of the sedation from the medication. You could try ranitidine, Claritin or Allegra in place of the Atarax.
