Default Family member and AME

Question for the Flight Surgeon...

Wifes dad is a doctor and is starting the process of becoming an AME. If and when he does his time and can write 1st class medicals would it be ok to use him? Would the FAA think something is fishy? We have different last names. Im not trying to hide anything just hoping to save a couple bucks. Any info appreciated....

Thanks...
