| Hi Doc- Thanks for helping out with our questions. I am about to go in for my first, 1st class medical in a few years, and decided to give myself a check-up before scheduling the appointment. I was very surprised to discover that my blood pressure is between 140-150 over 90-100. I have done a fair amount of research on the subject and have discovered two likely contributors: 1. I use tobacco, and 2. I frequently consumer more than the “recommended” amount of adult beverage. My question is this: Assuming I quit the tobacco, and limit my 12oz. intake, how long will it take for these lifestyle changes to reflect in my bp readings? My weight is not a problem and I run marathons in my spare time so activity level is also good. Thanks again for your help! |

Probably around 2-3 weeks. If it is not on the way down, you need to get it evaluated and treated. This is not a big deal for the FAA but it is for your health and longevity. Quote:
