I have a medical comming up next month and I have slightly questionable eyesight. My last few medicals I've just barely been able to pass the eyesight test. Everybody in my family has glasses, and reading some small print seems to be getting harder. Would it be better to go to an optometrist first? What happens if I go to my medical and fail the vision portion? Thanks, -Brett |

If you "fail" the vision test, i.e., do not meet standards, just ask the AME to hold the medical ( he can do this for up to 2 weeks, while you get refracted and a prescription. If you need to do this, just take a copy of the FAA Form 8500-7 http://forms.faa.gov/forms/faa8500-7.pdf from the eye doctor to the AME and he should then accept the corrected vision meeting standards and issue the medical certificate. |
