| I'm curious here... If you have a small medical issue and your medical is re-issued without a special issuance is that a huge deal? Here's where I'm headed: If you apply for a flying job and they ask you if you've ever had any kind of medical issues do you legally have to disclose that. In other words to what extent does HIPPA protect someone? I'm thinking that if the FAA reissues you the medical that should be sufficient. Or maybe employers are not even allowed to ask this, I don't know...? Help me out!

| Well, that depends on what the "small problem" was and if it was reported on the medical application. Most companies just look to see if you have a valid Class 1 medical and don't ask health questions. HIPPA protects your medical records from someone else releasing the information without your consent. If you answer questions or sign a medical release, HIPPA does not cover you. Most companies accept the FAA medical. |
