Hey Doc, Is there any reason to avoid an AME that (from what I gather) only performs a minimum amount of aviation medicals each year, and to find someone that specializes in aviation exams more? |

I would say YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! 85% of AME's perform fewer than 25 exams a year. That is OK if everything is straight forward and there are no problems. When problems occur that may lead to a Special Issuance, they do not do enough exams to be thoroughly familiar with what the FAA wants and how to facilitate the issue with the FAA. Many times they will just defer the medical when a few well selected tests or medical records and a call to the FAA can result in verbal approval to issue the medical certificate. After all, would you want a heart surgeon who operates on hearts every day or just twice a month? |

Thanks, it was our pleasure to help you. I trust the Seattle summer was better than here in Phoenix.

If I had the money, I would be in phx for my medical. I've been to so many AME's where I felt I got nothing out of it.
