Or will I just require glasses in the future? Just got home from my DOT physical. Hearing is excellent, in great shape. But I have concerns about my vision. My distant vision is fine, 20/20! However, my near vision was off. In the right eye my vision (according to this test) is 20/30. My near left vision is 20/40. I had to look in this view finder and look for a complete circle. So, what's up doc, any reason for concern? The doctor said my vision is fine, but if I'm concerned to ask (you) my AME. Can I still get a class1? |

I just got mine done today. Same issues. Doc said I have to carry what he called cheater glasses but no problem giving me a 1st class pass. Cheater glasses - Wal-mart, Costco, 5-12 dollar glasses. 1.25 power more than fixed my upclose focus problems. You probably noticed that at night it is even worse (low light conditions). Good Luck |

It was just for my job, so I didn't get too worried. But, I thought of the larger implications. I saw them giving a guy the same test, with the lights off. I was gon' ask for a redo. I took mine with lights on. But was like meh! When I took my last DOT physical last year I had 20/20 all the way around. Doubt my vision has gotten that bad in only a year. I read with no glasses. |

FYI, you'd likely do worse with the lights off...narrower depth-of-field with your pupils dilated, much like a camera with a wide-open aperture will have less in focus than one closed down tight.

Oh, and I'm 31! And I took my last vision screen at my previous DOT physical in the dark and got 20/20. Again, that was only last year. | |

Relax my friend. The distant vision is perfect and the FAA allows 20/40 near without correction. You will have no trouble getting a First Class without restrictions for vision |
