I wear glasses to fly (nearsighted, corrected to 20/20) and need them according to my 1st class med. Usually I wear Randolph aviator sunglasses with prescription lenses and B&L gray-green tints. I'm curious if you recommend any particular kind of glasses (sun and normal), shape, tint, etc. My regular glasses are rimless and kind of small. Thanks, Sir.

If you want sunglasses, get N-15 tint. The color (green vs brown) is a personal choice. Shape makes little difference except the larger lenses will block more light. They all come with UV protection. Polorized is a personal choice - if you use LCD displays, you will not want to polorize the lenses. If you want to reduce glare and do not use LCD displays, the polorized lenses are fantastic. BTW- you cam order prescription sun glasses (and other glasses) inexpensively from http://www.eyeglassdirect.com. You just need a prescription for the correction and a credit card. The eye doctor is required by Federal law to give you a copy of your prescription at the time of your eye exam. Last edited by SteveC; September 19th, 2007 at 12:13. Reason: fixed link |

I was always told not to use polarized lenses in cockpits with plexiglass windshields, apparently because crazing of the plexi shows up with polarized lenses. I've never verified this, however.

Many plexiglass windscreens are polarized. I guess it depends on the equipment you operate. I always wore polarized lenses in the SE Cessna A/C.

Asta, how / who did you go to to get your Randolph aviators with Rx lenses? I've always loved their frames, but I haven't been able to find them, and be able to find someone who is able to put RX lenses in them. |

I also have a real slender face, which is also another reason I'd like to purchase time in person so I can see how they will actually look on my skinny skull. Thanks for the link. ![]() So you just purchased them from Randolph, and then took them to an optometrist to have them put the lenses in? Or, can you order the lenses with tint from Randolph? |
