I was curious as to before I begin my flight training if I should obtain my first class medical as my first medical just to rule out any problems that might hinder my dream of being an airline pilot. I am 15 btw.

YES! Do yourself a big favor and get that first class medical. Its really not that much more money ($70-120 is avg). If you get the 1st class then it should be good while you do all or most of your training, while going down to second or third class privilages. Best case is you realize you can hold a first class with no issues, worst case is you find out that there is a problem. However, if you cant get a first class medical at least you can figure things out before spending LOTs of money. Good Luck |

I agree. You don't want any surprises after you commit to a 5 figure training program.

I have a lazy eye, and was worried. I did this same thing, got my 1st Class as my initial. It took some legwork and waiting, but it happened. "Relatively" easy, so I'd say no question, get the medical 1st!

| Senior Member | Haha. Same I have a lazy eye and a very, very minor astigmatism which is still correctable to 20/20.
